Calzadilla de la Cueza

Calzadilla de la Cueza is a very small town in the province of Palencia. The town’s name comes from the Aquitanian Route, which passed by this locality long before the Way of Santiago. Soon after leaving Calzadilla you can see the remains of a great hospital and Monastery of the Order of Santiago, known as Monastery de las Tiendas.

Excavations of an important Roman settlement were started in this town. You can also see the medieval Iglesia de Sant Martin here.

An altarpiece of the 16th century, originating from the monastery of Santa Maria de las Tiendas, is kept in the parochial church.
