Triacastela

Triacastela is a small village in the province of Lugo. Some historians differ on whether the name of the town refers to three castles (which appear clearly in the tower of the parish church) or to three forts, of which there are still archaeological remains in the area.

In Triacastela you can choose to follow the way to Samos or the one to San Xil and Calvor to get to Sarria.

The area was first documented in the 10th century as a strategically important place recognized by Alfonso lX, who later founded a town here.

Church of Santiago

Originally a Romanesque church, it was rebuilt in the 18th century. It still houses the carved image of the three castles Triacastela was named after.
