Belorado

Belorado is a town in the province of Burgos. It is located in the region of Montes de Oca, east of the province’s capital, Burgos, and near La Rioja and in the foothills of the Sierra de la Demanda, at the foot of the Montes de Ayago. Its main riverbed is the river Tirón (a tributary of the Ebro).

The origins of Belorado go back to being a Roman fort.

Its magnificent churches of Santa María and San Pedro, constructed in the 16-17th centuries and a large number of pilgrims’ refuges testify to the importance of this village.

At the exit of the town, the pilgrim crosses the River Tirón by the bridge “El Canto”, the construction of which goes back to the reign of Alfonso VI.
