19. From Mansilla de las Mulas to León

This is another easy day as the whole distance barely exceeds 18 kilometers and the surface will be mostly flat. At the end of this day, you will reach Leon, a city of 125,000 inhabitants with lots of things to see and do.

You will again follow closely the N-120 road and today, unlike the day before, you will pass through many villages so there is no need to stock up on essentials.

Villamoros de Mansilla is the first village you will reach after one hour of walking from Mansilla. You can find here a café and a bakery. If you don’t want to stop here to drink anything, the next village, Puente Villarente lies less than two kilometers away. There is not much to do here either.

Before reaching the next village, Valdelafuente you can take a 200 meters detour to see the village of Arcahueja if you please. After Valdelafuente you will pass through an industrial area, a clear sign that a bigger city is not far away. Puente Castro is right before Leon and it is undistinguishable where Puente Castro ends and where Leon begins.

Leon is a very beautiful city that is worth exploring for more hours. Leon Cathedral also called the Pulchra Leonina is a magnificent gothic cathedral built in the 13th century on the site of a previous Roman cathedral.

The Convento de San Marcos was a monastery but now it is converted into a luxury hotel, however, the building is still worth visiting for its architecture. Antoni Gaudi also left his mark on this city as he designed and built the Casa de los Botines, the headquarters of a local bank.
