Redecilla del Camino is the first locality of Castilla y Leon and the first of the Province of Burgos, located approximately halfway between Santo Domingo de la Calzada and Belorado.
The church of the Virgen de la Calle houses one of the jewels of the way: a 12th-century baptizing pool. In front of the church, a modern refuge has risen on the old hospital of San Lazaro.
A document of the parochial files tells the peculiar news of a French pilgrim of the 16th century, called Jean, who died there. To pay for the burial, his clothes were auctioned, but in the lack of a bidder, they were not sold. Therefore he was buried in the parochial enclosure at the municipality’s expense.
